When Should a Tree Be Removed?
A damaged tree does not automatically need to come down.
Sometimes tree trimming is enough. Dead limbs can be removed and a tree may still have plenty of healthy life left in it. Other times, keeping the tree around no longer makes sense.
Dead trees are an obvious concern. Significant decay can be another. You may also notice cracks developing in the trunk or sections of the tree beginning to die.
Storms can change things quickly. A tree that looked fine last week may suddenly have broken limbs or a new lean after heavy wind.
Then there is the location.
A declining tree at the edge of a wooded property may not be an immediate problem. Put that same tree next to your house and the situation changes.
The roots matter too. Digging around a tree can damage its root system, especially during construction or landscaping work. That damage is not always obvious from above ground.

What Happens During a Tree Removal?
First, we need to see what we are dealing with.
We look at the tree itself and the space around it. How large is it? What condition is it in? Is there enough room to work safely?
The answers help determine how the tree comes down.
Some removals are fairly simple. There may be plenty of open space with nothing nearby to worry about. Other jobs require the tree to come down in smaller sections.
That is often the case around houses or other tight spaces.
Limbs can be removed first when needed. The trunk can then be worked down section by section instead of dropping the whole tree at once.
We will go over the plan before starting the job. You should know what is going to happen on your property before the work begins.
Once the tree is down, we clean up the work area based on what was agreed upon for the job.
What If the Tree Is Close to My House?
This is pretty common.
Trees grow wherever they have room, which often puts them next to houses or garages. We also find them squeezed between buildings or hanging over driveways. Sometimes there is barely any open ground beneath them.
You cannot approach those trees the same way you would a tree standing in the middle of a field.
There may not be room to bring the whole tree down at once. Instead, it can be taken apart in manageable sections. This gives us more control over where each part of the tree goes.

What Happens to the Stump?
Taking down the tree does not remove the stump.
Some homeowners are fine leaving it. Others want the whole area cleared so they can mow over it or use that part of the yard again.
That is where stump grinding comes in.
Grinding the stump gets it down below the surface without digging out the entire root system. It can be added to the job if you want the stump taken care of after the tree is gone.

Look for major changes. A new lean, large dead sections or serious damage to the trunk are worth paying attention to. Storm damage can also make a previously healthy tree a concern. If you are unsure, have someone take a look before deciding to remove it.
Can you remove a tree right next to a house?
Yes. Trees near houses often require a more controlled removal. Instead of bringing the tree down all at once, sections can be removed individually. We determine the best approach after seeing the tree and the space available.
What about storm-damaged trees?
